Embracing Friendship - A Successful Exhibition / by Alexander Evans

Just this past weekend October 2 through to October 4 2026 a super successful exhibition was held in my Home Town of Goulburn NSW Australia!

The theme was “Embracing Friendship” and we showed arrangemments from 11 different artists including locals and visiting ikebana artists from Canberra, Sydney, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie. Between us we created 23 different arrangements that our exhibition visitors enjoyed. See below for a small selection of what was on show.

We had a special “Peoples Choice Award” which went to the very deserving Sandy Jumikis who won a hand made Anagama wood fired vase from Local Master Potter Ian Jones valued at over $700 AUD. Sandy was absolutely thrilled with the award for her beautiful arrangement that featured cherry blossom and white waratahs.

Our success can be measured well by the number of visitors we had to the exhibition which was over 175 people in the course of the weekend and our opening on Friday evening.

We were supported in the exhibition by the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre who were an absolute joy to work with and made all aspects flow incredibly smoothly. We were also kindly assisted by Lerida Estate Winery who provided wine for our opening event ensuring that a wonderful time was had by all concerned.

The Saturday morning demonstration saw the creation of 5 new arrangements exploring how we can express friendship through ikebana. We had a full house with people providing feedback that they found the demonstration inspiring and wonderful to watch. Our sunday afternoon workshop was also a great success with once again a full house for the theme “The power of ONE - one flower, one leaf, one branch” which was about introducing the idea of arranging with minimal amount of materials yet creating maximum impact. Everyone enjoyed the event and were even more happy that they got to take their arrangements home with them including their container.
